Yadav community (Yaduvanshi)
Yadavs, who claim to be related to the lineage of Lord Krishna, mostly live in Northern India and their population is especially high in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Traditionally they belong to the shepherd caste. Their traditional systems changed with time. The Yadavs have been involved in agriculture and milk production for many years. They claim descent from the legendary King Yadu as part of a movement of social and political revival in the 19th century. Yaduvanshi Kshatriyas were basically Ahirs. The term Yadav now includes several traditional farmer-herder castes such as the Ahir and Gawli in Maharashtra.
Most of the wrestlers in North India belong to the Yadav caste. He attributes this to his involvement in milk business and dairy farming, thus milk and ghee are considered essential for a good diet.
Yadavs constitute a significant proportion of the population in various areas. The approach of Yadavs has been peaceful. Their special relationship with cows and their beliefs about Krishna hold a special significance in Hindu religion. Rao Bahadur Balbir Singh founded the Ahir Yadav Kshatriya Mahasabha in 1910, which stated that Ahirs were Kshatriyas in the varna system, were descendants of Yadu (like Krishna) and were actually known as Yadavs. Yadavs in Indian politics Has special importance. Yadav politics has dominated in densely populated states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Apart from the northern states, the word Yadav covers many sub-castes. Which is basically known by many names. Known as Ahir in Punjab and Gujarat, Gawali in Maharashtra, Goa, Golla in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, Konar in Tamil Nadu and Maniyar in Kerala.
